GRADIENT

Change in the value of a quantity (as temperature, pressure, or concentration) with change in a given variable and especially per unit distance in a specified direction.


GRAINS PER POUND

(Of moisture) per pound (gpp) or kilogram (gpk) – A unit for measuring specific humidity, or the weight of moisture in air, expressed as grains per pound (gpp) of dry air


GRAM

(g) – A metric unit for mass weight. One gram is about 4/100th of an ounce, or one ounce is about 28 grams.


GRAM POSITIVE NEGATIVE

A means of classifying bacteria (chiefly) as related to the bacteria_s ability to be stained with Gram_s purple stain. Staph and strep are examples of gram-positive bacteria. Pseudomonas and salmonella are examples of gram-negative bacteria.


GRIT (SAND) BLASTING

The application of abrasive substances driven by compressed air or water, in order to remove rust, adhered materials or coatings. A wide variety of materials may be used, corresponding to the hardness of the surface, the nature of the adhered substance


GROUT

Mortar used for filling joints in unit masonry or ceramic tile; also a mixture of cement and water, or similar materials, used to consolidate unstable earth.


GUARANTEE

A written commitment by a manufacturer, distributor or provider of a service, usually relating to the quality, durability or life expectancy of the product or service provided; a warranty.


GYPSUM BOARD

A widely available chalk-like mineral, CaSO42H2O, consisting of hydrous calcium sulphate. It is used in plaster of Paris and in making plasterboard (drywall, gyprock).
