INDOOR AIR QUALITY, IAQ

IAQ The condition of the ambient air within a building, as measured by the presence or absence of fresh or stale air and airborne contaminants.


INDUCTION / ORIENTATION

The process by which a new employee/worker/visitor is inducted as to the risks and safety issues on a job site. It can also refer to the initial transfer of information about a company and or their process_s so as to enable the person to feel comfortable.


INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST

(IH) – A professional qualified by education, training and experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and develop controls for occupational health hazards.


INERT

That portion of a formula that is not active (e.g., household chlorine bleach is a 5.25 – 6% solution of sodium hypochlorite, with 94 – 95.75% inert ingredients, i.e., distilled water).


INFECTION

A condition in which pathogens have entered the body and produced an adverse reaction.


INGESTION

Taking a substance into the body through the mouth.


INHALATION

Taking a substance into the body through respiration (breathing through the mouth or nose).


INORGANIC

Composed of matter other than that derived from plants or animals, i.e., mineral. Not organic.


INSECTICIDE

Any of various chemical compounds that have the ability to control or kill insects, spiders or other arthropods, when used according to label directions.


INSOLUBLE

Not capable of being dissolved in a liquid.
