Individuals entering the industry or wishing to develop a better understanding of basic damage management protocols and procedures in relation to fire damage claims. Particularly relevant to those aiming to sit the BDMA Technician examination to gain professional qualification and accreditation as a BDMA Technician.

Objectives

The course aims to provide delegates with a basic understanding and knowledge of Fire damage management procedures and best practice in-line with the BDMA Standards. In addition to an overview of the generic procedures followed by professional damage management practitioners when dealing with fire and subsequent water damage, the course will cover:

A basic understanding of fire types and residues, how to identify these and how to add value to a fire damage scope.

Contamination of building and contents materials, being able to identify materials at primary risk and the understanding of mitigation procedures.

Correctly identifying the most efficient decontamination systems for each loss.

Understanding how to classify fire incidents to help make better decisions.

How drying systems can be used to significantly reduce the scope of fire/soot contamination, corrosion and other issues relating to moisture damage.

Best practice to control indemnity spend in general and improve customer’s experience.

Being able to better understand simple on-site testing for soot contamination for both inclusion in pre and post decontamination reporting.
