Individuals entering the industry or wishing to develop a better understanding of basic damage management protocols and procedures. Particularly relevant to those aiming to sit the BDMA Technician examination in order to gain professional qualification and accreditation as a BDMA Technician.

Objectives

The course aims to provide delegates with basic knowledge of damage management procedures and best practice in-line with the BDMA Standards. It is anticipated that completion of the course, combined with further study of the BDMA Training Module, the BDMA Standards and the relevant Examination Syllabus, will equip students with sufficient knowledge to competently deliver basic damage management solutions and be in a position to sit the BDMA Technician examination if they wish to progress to accreditation as a BDMA Technician.

Content

In addition to an overview of the generic procedures followed by professional damage management practitioners when dealing with water, flood and fire damage, the course will cover:
• Measuring moisture in buildings accurately to avoid extended drying periods
• Correctly identifying drying systems for cost effective drying
• Understanding how to classify water, flood and fire incidents to help make better decisions
• How drying systems can be used to significantly reduce the scope of building work
• Which materials and building designs affect drying, and how they can be dealt with
• Ways to control indemnity spend in general and improve the customer’s experience

Requirements

All candidates are required to complete the administrative information on the e-Academy enrolment before attending the course.

All candidates will need access to their own device (ideally a PC, laptop or tablet) with full audio and video capability; a keyboard and mouse is recommended. Candidates are responsible for ensuring a consistent internet connection.

The BDMA have responded to the changing workplace by working to produce a virtually delivered version of our popular classroom training.  We are pleased to offer Virtual Instructor Led training to complement our range of e-Academy courses. With this new digital toolkit, we hope to create a more flexible and accessible approach to learning.

Note that the BDMA records the training sessions as part of an internal continuous improvement programme, and to ensure that the high standard of our accreditation programme is maintained.


 

Required pre-requisite learning

We are introducing the BDMA Foundation which will be a pre-requisite for people attending virtual training.  This will ensure that all candidates have a attained a similar level of learning before the course commences.  This will contain the following modules available from the BDMA e-Academy: https://bdmaacademy.learnupon.com/dashboard

Mandatory Courses:

  • Introduction to the BDMA – 15 min
  • BS 12999 – Overview of the Damage Management Code of Practice – 30 min
  • BDMA Standards Overview – 15 min
  • Supporting Children and Young People after flooding – 45 min
  • The Flood Recovery Process: understanding peoples’ everyday realities – 45 min
  • Water Damage Management: An Overview – 120 min

In addition, attendees will be expected to purchase and pass the core damage management e-Learning modules:

  • Damage Management Training & Reference – 5 hours

Note that the BDMA reserves the right to refuse access to the virtual training course to any candidates who have not completed the mandatory pre-requisite training.
