DISTRESSED FINISH

The intentional application of blemishes and irregularities in a finish to simulate the appearance of use and age.

DOT MOISTURE DESIGNATION SYSTEM

A system used on structural drying claims, involving the placement of colour dots on structural surfaces to visually indicate moisture levels (saturated, moderate, above normal, dry) within those surfaces.


DOUBLE GLAZING

An assembly of two panes of glass separated by an air space, used to provide increased thermal or sound insulation.


DRAG TOOL

A weighted floor tool used for _steam_ cleaning or for vacuum extraction of excess water from water flooded carpet. A solid compression roller on the drag tool may be helpful in distributing antimicrobial compounds.


DRY AIR

Air with no suspended moisture vapour. At sea level 14 cubic feet of dry air weighs one pound.


DRY BULB

The temperature registered by a thermometer with a dry sensing bulb. see _wet bulb temperature_


DRY CLEAN

To clean with a non-aqueous solvent, usually formulated for that purpose.


DRY FOAM

A detergent solution which is agitated or mixed with air to produce a frothy cleaning medium with low moisture content.


DRY ROT

The slow, progressive deteriorating effect of micro organisms (fungi) over time under minimum-moisture conditions on organic (especially cellulose) materials.
