BIOPOLLUTANTS

BIOSTAT

A substance, usually chemical, that prevents the growth of living, usually micro organisms but does not necessarily kill them or their spores.


BLEACH

Bleach products for home use are normally 5.25 – 6% solutions of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO); Chlorine bleach also may be found in bathroom cleansers, dish washing compounds, and powdered laundry detergents


BLEEDING

The penetration of a pigment or residue from a substrate through a top layer of paint. The diffusion of colours or dyes within a material, often caused by wetting.


BLIGHT

1. A plant disease characterized by general and rapid browning of leaves, flowers, and stems, resulting in their death. 2. The bacterium, fungus, or virus that causes such disease.


BLISTERING

Small bubbles or bulges in a finish coat of plaster or paint, caused by entrapped moisture, heat, or applying a coating over an improperly prepared surface.


BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN

Harmful micro organisms present in blood or other potentially infectious materials, which could cause disease or death in humans. Included among these micro organisms are hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
