Relevant To

Individual insurers and chartered loss adjusters employed by an insurer, broker or loss adjusting organisation who have direct involvement in property claims and do not have access to bespoke BDMA training in-house, for whom detailed knowledge of professional damage management practices will enhance their ability to achieve appropriate outcomes.

Objectives

The course aims to provide delegates with an understanding of key elements of damage management best practice as delivered by professional practitioners. It is anticipated that this course, combined with further study of the insurer version of the BDMA Training & Reference Module and the BDMA Standards, will enable students to engage in informed discussion with clients and contractors, identify and agree appropriate and cost effective solutions and challenge incorrect procedures.

Content

In addition to an overview of the generic procedures followed by professional damage management practitioners when dealing with water, flood and fire damage, the course will cover:
• Measuring moisture in buildings accurately to avoid extended drying periods
• Correctly identifying drying systems for cost effective drying
• Understanding how to classify water, flood and fire incidents to help make better decisions
• How drying systems can be used to significantly reduce the scope of building work
• Which materials and building designs affect drying, and how they can be dealt with
• Ways to control indemnity spend in general and improve the customer’s experience

PLEASE NOTE: This course is only available to individual insurers and chartered loss adjusters employed by an insurer or loss adjusting organisation who have direct involvement in property claims but do not have access to bespoke BDMA training in-house.  If you are unsure whether you qualify please email info@bdma.org.uk for clarification before proceeding.

COVID-19 is driving many of us to a world of mandatory remote working and is showing us how important digital delivery will be in the future and accelerating our journey to get there.

The BDMA have responded to this by working to produce a virtually delivered version of our popular classroom training culminating with the accreditation exam on the afternoon of the second day of training.

Note that the BDMA records both the training and the examination Zoom sessions as part of an internal continuous improvement programme, and to ensure that the high standards of our examination and accreditation programmes are maintained.

Required pre-requisite learning

To enable us to condense the virtual training into a shorter time we are also introducing the BDMA Foundation which will be a pre-requisite for people attending virtual training. This will ensure that all candidates have a attained a similar level of learning before the course commences. This will contain the following modules available from the BDMA e-Academy: https://bdmaacademy.learnupon.com/dashboard

Mandatory Courses:

  • Introduction to the BDMA – 15 min
  • BS 12999 – Overview of the Damage Management Code of Practice – 30 min
  • BDMA Standards Overview – 15 min
  • Supporting Children and Young People after flooding – 45 min
  • The Flood Recovery Process: understanding peoples’ everyday realities – 45 min
  • Water Damage Management: An Overview – 120 min

In addition, attendees will be expected to purchase and pass the core damage management e-Learning modules:

  • Damage Management for Insurance Technicians – 5 hours

Prior to your training you will be sent a printed handout booklet in the post with information relevant to the course.

Note that the BDMA reserves the right to refuse access to the virtual training course to any candidates who have not completed the mandatory pre-requisite training.

Requirements for quizzes and examination

All candidates will need access to their own device (ideally a PC, laptop or tablet) with audio and video capability to fully take part in the Zoom training. They will also need to be able to complete the daily knowledge check quizzes and the examination at the end of the course.

For the examination, candidates will need to ensure that they are in a quiet location where they can remain undisturbed for the duration of the exam (3 hours). The format of the exam is a closed book assessment so all notes, booklets etc will need to be removed from the area before the exam starts.

The exam will be invigilated using Zoom.
